Kelyn Young for the second time this season has been named 'OUA Athlete of the Week' after winning all five of her matches at the 2025 Wrestling Canada Lutte U SPORTS Invitational Championships in St. Catharines to finish in first place in the women's 50kg weight class. Young, a psychology major at the University of Guelph, is in her third year of eligibility with the Gryphons wrestling program but final year of her undergraduate studies, and capped off her remarkable Gryphon wrestling career at nationals by topping the national podium. The Brampton, Ontario native, who a few weeks prior claimed gold at the OUA Wrestling Championships (Feb. 8), continued her fine form on the mat as she won all four of her matches in pool play to book her spot in the gold medal match. In the gold medal match, Young pinned Brock's Samantha Romero in the first round to finish in first place in her weight class to take home a national gold medal. Young only allowed two points to be scored on her throughout her dominant 2024-25 season on the mat. Young was also named a national major award winner at the meet, taking home the R.W. Pugh Fair Play Award for the student-athlete who best exemplified sportsmanship and competitive talent throughout the national championship tournament.
