Kelyn Young has been named 'OUA Athlete of the Week' after winning all four of her matches at the 2025 OUA Wrestling Championships in Sault Ste. Marie to finish in 1st-place in the women's 50kg weight class. Young, a psychology major at the University of Guelph with a minor in neuroscience, is in her final year of her undergraduate studies and third season competing with the Gryphons women's wrestling program. The now two-time OUA gold mealist from Brampton, Ontario came into the 2025 provincial championships with three first-place finishes on the season and she added one more on Saturday (Feb. 8). Young went undefeated in pool play, winning all three of her matches with two via fall to qualify her for the gold medal match. She would win her second OUA gold medal in her illustrious Gryphon career after defeating Brock's Samantha Romero via technical fall. Young was also named an OUA major award winner as the 2025 "OUA Female Wrestler of the Year" after her fantastic meet, becoming the third Gryphon woman ever to be named OUA Wrestler of the Year (joining
Natassya Lu in 2016-17, and Tara Hedican who earned the honour twice in 2001-02 & 2002-03). Young and eight of her teammates on the U of G wrestling team have earned qualification to the 2025 U SPORTS Wrestling Championships taking place in St. Catharines, Ontario at the campus of the Brock Badgers on February 28 to March 1.
