THUNDER BAY, Ont. - This past weekend (Feb. 24-25) the University of Guelph men's and women's nordic skiing teams made the trip north to Thudner Bay to compete in the 2024 OUA Nordic Skiing Championships, hosted by Lakehead University at the Lappe Ski Centre. In the final standings, both the Gryphon men and women captured 8th-place out of 10 competing OUA programs.
FINAL RESULTS
Leading the way for the Gryphons on the men's side was fourth-year mechanical engineering major
Alec MacLean. MacLean produced the best finish of any skier in the opening event,

the 15km mass start, completing the race in a time of 40:09.2, less than four minutes off the winning pace, to earn 14th-place. On Sunday (Feb. 25) he would add another Top-15 finish in the 7.5km interval start, earning 15th-place with a time of 22:02.8. The product of Oro Medonte, Ontario would then complete his competition contributing to a 14th-place finish by the Gryphon men's relay team.
On the women's side, third-year human kinetics major
Julia Shannon led the way, earning a 24th-place finish in the 15km mass start with a time of 50:11.8 before claiming 25th in the 7.5km interval start with a time of 27:14.1. Rookie
Abbygale Davidson also impressive in her first ever championship appearance, earning 30th in the interval start (28:32.2 and) and 32nd in the mass start55:01.6 in fields of 50 and 45 student-athletes.
The Carleton Ravens women's team claimed the OUA title for the sixth time in seven season while on the men's side, the Lakehead Thunderwolves captured their third consecutive championship banner.
