The Gryphons enter the weekend with a 3-2 record and sit 4th in the OUA standings while riding a two-game winning streak. The team is also coming off of their most lopsided victory in recent memory, an 88-7 Homecoming win over the York Lions this past Saturday (Sept. 23). The game saw the Gryphons put up 728 yards of total offence and find the endzone on 11 occasions while limiting the Lions to just 182 yards and seven points. The effort was led by the eventual U SPORTS Offensive Player of the Week and U of G rookie quarterback, Tristan Aboud,Donavin Milloy vs York who was a perfect 16-for-16 for 384 yards and a Gryphon football single-game record 6 touchdowns through the air. The Montreal native now ranks among the conference's best in several key statistics including completion percentage (2nd), passing efficiency (3rd), and touchdowns (4th) among others. The Gryphon rushing attack and second-year running back Donavin Milloy also had an impressive day, with Milloy accounting for 188 of the team's 271 rushings yards. After averaging 23.5 yards per carry against the Lions, Milloy now leads the nation in the statistical category, averaging 11.0 yards per rush. The Hamilton native, through five games, has quickly established himself as one of the premier backs in the conference ranking third in both total yards (552) and yards per game (110.4). Defensively, the effort was let by the Gryphon linebacking corps of Jevaun Jacobsen, Braeden MacDougall, and Brandon Ferigo. The trio racked up 6.5, 4.5, and 6 total tackles with Jacobsen also bringing in the first of two Guelph interceptions. The win vaulted the Gryphons up the OUA standings and will prove to have provided a boost as the team continues to build momentum as they hurdle towards the postseason.

The Gryphons will now look to make it three consecutive wins this Saturday, something that was last done during the 2019 season. The last time the Gryphons and Warriors met was in Week 3 of the 2022 season, a game that saw plenty of fireworks as the Gryphons took a 41-35 victory. The game, which was played a Warrior Field, was a back and forth affair with both teams holding the lead at times. The Gryphons were able to pull ahead with :53 seconds remaining thanks to Isaiah Smith finding the endzone from 9-yards out to solidify the win. The Gryphons will be looking for their 15th straight win over the Warriors, with their last loss coming in the form of a 27-24 overtime loss in the 2005 season.

Following this weekend's matchup, the Gryphons will head to the bye week prior to hosting the Queen's Gaels on October 14 in the penultimate game of the 2023 OUA regular season. The team will then close out their regular season schedule on the road in Ottawa, where they will take on the Carleton Ravens in Week 9 (Oct. 21).
