SAINT JOHN, New Brunswick – It was a member of the Guelph Gryphons women's track and field team who stole the spotlight on Day 1 of the 2022 U SPORTS Track and Field Championships in Saint John, New Brunswick.
Jacqueline Madogo, a psychology major at the University of Guelph currently in her fourth year of studies and third year of eligibility, claimed U SPORTS gold in the women's 60m. The 21-year-old Ottawa native crossed the line in a blistering time of 7.30 seconds to finish ahead of Saskatchewan's Gracie Anderson and Laval's Audrey Leduc in the women's 60m final.

Madogo's time was just shy of matching the University of Guelph school record in the women's 60m, with Jacqueline's former teammate, Shyvonne Roxborough, owning the school record with a time of 7.29.
For Madogo, who also played one season of women's soccer with the Gryphons during her freshman year in 2018-19, the gold medal on Thursday marked her second trip to the national podium, after having earned a U SPORTS silver medal in Edmonton during the 2019-20 season.
Jacqueline Madogo becomes just the second Gryphon sprinter ever to claim a national gold medal in the women's 60m, joining Shyvonne Roxborough who twice earned U SPORTS gold in the event (2017 & 2019).
Another Gryphon highlight on Day 1 at nationals was the performance from
Noah Dommasch in the men's heptathlon. The 19-year-old St. Catharines native set a new U SPORTS in-event record in the heptathlon high jump, clearing 1.99 metres. The men's heptathlon will conclude on Friday (April 1), where Dommasch will look to reach the podium in his first appearance at a U SPORTS Track and Field Championship.
