BURLINGTON, Ont. – The Gryphons men's hockey program was represented on three occasions on Tuesday (March 22) as the OUA announced the all-stars and major award winners for the 2021-22 men's hockey season. Connor Bramwell and Matthew Timms were both named OUA All-Stars, while first-year forward Luke Bignell earned a spot on the OUA All-Rookie Team.

In his fourth season with the Guelph Gryphons men's hockey program, and third season of on-ice action, veteran forward Connor Bramwell takes home OUA All-Star honours for the first time in his U of G career. Connor Bramwell celebrates a goal versus the Waterloo WarrirosThe 24-year-old real estate major has impressed from the moment he set foot on U of G campus, with the Hamilton native being named to the OUA All-Rookie Team back in 2018-19 as a freshman. In 2021-22, Bramwell scored a team-high 20 points in just 16 regular season games played (5 goals, 15 assists). Bramwell's 15 assists were just two off the OUA-lead (with Queen's Gaels forward, Jonathan Yantsis, leading the OUA with 17 assists in 19 games played).

Prior to arriving at U of G, Bramwell played three seasons in the QMJHL (123 games with Blainville-Boisbriand Armada and 45 games with the Drummondville Voltigeurs), and in 2021-22, was named an assistant captain for the Gryphs. During his career as a Gryphon, Bramwell has reached the 20-point plateau in each of his three seasons of OUA hockey, with his 20-point total in 2021-22 ranking him 6th in the OUA in scoring.

Joining Bramwell on the list of all-star selections from the OUA Far West Division is third-year blueliner, Matthew Timms. The 23-year-old native of Waterdown, Ontario picks up the first OUA All-Star nod of his Gryphon career after finishing tied for 4th on the team in scoring with 9 points (3 goals, 3 assists) in 14 games played. Matt TimmsA talented offensive-defenceman, Timms has quickly established himself as one of the top power play defencemen in the conference. The former OHL'er (four seasons with the Peterborough Petes, one with the London Knights) also made big strides during the 2021-22 season in terms of his development on the defensive end, with the marketing management major turning himself into one of the Gryphons most consistent and responsible players at both ends of the ice.

Rounding out the list of Gryphon award winners is first-year forward, Luke Bignell, who was named to the OUA All-Rookie Team. The 21-year-old Kitchener native was a solid addition to the Gryphons lineup in 2021-22, suiting up in 14 games during his rookie season while chipping in with 3 goals and 3 assists. The 6-1, 185 pound forward added a physical presence to the Gryphon forecheck, with the former Barrie Colt contributing on both the penalty kill and power play units for the Gryphs in 2021-22 while regularly displaying one of the top work ethics on the team.
