TORONTO, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphons women's wrestling team jumped up three spots in the national rankings (No. 7 to No. 4) on Tuesday (Nov. 27) as U SPORTS released the most recent Top 10 polls for the 2018-19 season. The Gryphons men's wrestling team holds onto a spot in the national top 10 as the No. 10 ranked men's wrestling program in the country.
This past weekend, a trio of members of the Gryphons women's wrestling team were in action in Hamilton at the Ontario Senior Provincial Championships. Fourth-year standout
Chelsey Sicard followed up her strong performance at the U23 Worlds by taking home gold from the provincials in Hamilton. Teammate
Natassya Lu took home silver, as did
Alexander Chaves on the men's side.
The Gryphons varsity wrestling teams will now break for exams and Christmas before resuming their schedule on Saturday, January 12 with a trip to St. Catharines for the Brock Open. That will be followed by a home event on January 20 when the Gryphons host the Guelph Open.
