Box Score WATERLOO, ON - The upcoming exam/Christmas break may be the only thing that can keep the Gryphons Men's Hockey team from continuing to rack up wins these days. Thursday afternoon at the Waterloo Recreation Complex, the red hot Gryphons picked up their ninth win in their last 11 games thanks to a 5-3 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks. Although the goal scoring was spread out for Guelph, with five different Gryphon players finding the back of the net, the assists seemed to belong almost entirely to one man as third year forward
Rob De Fulviis (Toronto, ON) racked up a career-high four assists on the day. Second year goalie
Andrew D'Agostini made 37 saves for the win as the Gryphons improved to 10-6-0 on the season and moved into a tie for second place in the OUA's West division. With the loss, the Golden Hawks fall to 6-9-0.
Throughout the course of the season, the Gryphons Men's Hockey team is accustomed to hitting the ice during the mid-to-late hours of the morning. But that is usually just for practice. Lacing them up for the real thing at that time of the day presents a whole new challenge. Puck drop for Thursday afternoon's game in Waterloo was set for 11am as

part of Laurier's third annual "School Day" promotion. With just under 3,000 in attendance, most of whom were enthusiastic elementary students, the Gryphons suddenly found themselves in hostile territory as they were in pursuit of what would be an impressive sixth straight road win. As if the school day promotion wasn't enough, it was also Laurier's "Teddy Bear Toss" game. With around 14 minutes gone in the opening period, the Golden Hawks would score the opening goal of the game when Laurier rookie forward
Will Cook snapped one past D'Agostini. Cue the teddy bears. Shortly after hundreds of stuffed animals made their way onto the ice, the Gryphons would make their way into to the locker room trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes of play. Over the next 20 minutes of play however, the Gryphons effectively silenced the crowd.
The Gryphons would open things up in the second period by scoring three straight goals to grab a 3-1 lead. The first two goals came from unlikely sources as defencemen
Reilly O'Connor and
Thomas Kohler each scored their first goals of the 2015-16 season to give the Gryphons a 2-1 lead. Before the period came to a close, the Gryphons would add one more when
Carlos Amestoy scored his fourth goal in his last five games to give the visitors a 3-1 lead heading to the final period. In the third, Laurier would fight back with a pair of goals 2:27 apart to tie the game at 3-3, but midway through the period, the Gryphons would take the lead for good on a power play goal from first year forward
Dylan Gilbert, his fifth goal of the campaign. Rob De Fulviis picked up his third assist of the night on that goal, and De Fulviis would tack on a fourth by setting up
Scott Simmonds for an empty netter with :57 seconds remaining to seal the 5-3 victory.
Andrew D'Agostini made 37 saves on the night, including several big stops to preserve the then-one goal lead in the final period. D'Agostini currently ranks second in the country with a .935 save percentage and his Gryphons have now won three in a row and seven of their last eight overall. The streaking Gryphons will be forced to break for exams and Christmas with their next OUA regular season game not taking place until Thursday, January 9 when they will play host the York Lions.
