South Bend, IN - Friday night in South Bend, Indiana the Gryphons Men's Hockey team lost 7-5 to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a non-conference exhibition game.

The Gryphons found themselves trailing 2-0 early on against the Irish, but power play goals from
Tryg Strand and
Lenny Fabbri got the Gryphons right back into it and tied the game at 2-2. U of G goalie
Andrew D'Agostini, who was given the first half of the game, was busy early on as he made 13 saves in the opening period in which Notre Dame outshot the Gryphons 16-6. The Irish held a 3-2 lead after the opening 20 minutes, but in the 2nd period, the Gryphons would once again respond on the power play. This time, it was second year defenceman
Mac Nichol (Listowel, ON) finding the back of the net just over 30 seconds into the period to tie the game at 3-3. The Fighting Irish would score the next four goals to take a 7-3 lead before Fabbri and
Seth Swenson scored late in the 3rd period to make the final 7-5.

Four of the Gryphons five goals came on the power play.
Scott Stajcer played the second half of the game in net for the Gryphons, making 12 saves on the night but took the loss after allowing 4 goals. Lenny Fabbri finished with a 3-point night after adding an assist late to go with his two goals scored.
Nick Trecapelli and
Dylan Gilbert each finished with a pair of assists. Other Gryphons with multi-point nights were Tryg Strand (1 G, 1 A), Mac Nichol (1 G, 1 A) and Seth Swenson (1 G, 1 A). This game marked the first of a two-game NCAA road trip for the Gryphons. Up next, a trip to Moon, Pennsylvania to face the Robert Morris Colonials on Sunday, Oct. 11. The Gryphons will resume their OUA regular season schedule on Thursday, October 15 when they travel to Toronto to face the Ryerson Rams.
