Box Score Ottawa, Ont. – The University of Guelph women's volleyball team fell in straight sets on the road Sunday afternoon to the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Set scores were 19-25, 14-25 & 22-25.
The first set started with a close early battle with Ottawa leading by one at the technical timeout. From there, the Gee-Gees turned up the pressure to pull away winning 25-19. Set 2 started poorly for the Gryphons as they couldn't handle the serving pressure from Ottawa falling behind 9-2. The Gee-Gees were able to maintain a comfortable lead to finish 25-14. The third set was similar to the first with Ottawa leading 16-15 at the timeout, but a 6-2 run proved the difference allowing the Gee-Gees to win the set and match at 25-22.
Coach Funk stated, "We played well for stretches today but we were not able to sustain it long enough to win sets. We need to find a way to turn things around over the next week as we have important matches over the next two weeks which will determine the season for us." Maddie DeDecker led the offense with 11 points (11 kills) followed by Becky Breau with 8 (8 kills). The Gryphons next action is at home next Friday when they host the Western Mustangs at 6pm.
