Toronto (February 23, 2014) – The Guelph Gryphons women's volleyball team concluded their season with a hard fought 3-0 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues in the OUA bronze medal match of the 2014 Women's Volleyball Final Four championship on Sunday afternoon. Set scores were 25-14, 25-23 and 25-22. Â

The Varsity Blues won their third straight OUA bronze and were led by Charlotte Sider with 15 kills and nine digs, while Jennifer Neilson notched eight kills and nine digs.Â

The first set started evenly with the teams tied at 6-6 but Toronto won the middle section leading 16-10 at the timeout. A 7-0 run to finish allowed the Varsity Blues to win the set 25-14. Set 2 started well for Guelph as they led 16-9 at the technical timeout but they got stuck in a rotation that they couldn't get out of and Toronto used another 7-0 run to steal the set 25-23. The third set saw the Gryphons trailing 11-16 at the technical timeout but a 10-3 run had Guelph leading 21-19. From there, the Gryphons again couldn't finish as Toronto went on a 6-1 run to win the set and match 25-22.

Coach Funk stated, "We didn't have the same level of execution today as we did yesterday. If we had been able to finish the second set, it might have been a different match but Toronto deserved the victory today."
The young Gryphons squad gained valuable experience for the future at the Final Four as they head into the off-season.Â
