Gryphons edge Mustangs 5-4 in Game 1 of playoff series

London, Ont. (February 20, 2014) – Cale Jefferies and Carlos Amestoy scored two late third period goals within 30 seconds of each other to lift the Guelph Gryphon men's hockey team to a 5-4 victory over the Western Mustangs in game 1 of the OUA West quarter-final series on Thursday night in London.
 
The Gryphs had to rally for the win as they trailed 4-3 with four minutes remaining in the contest.
 
Nicklas Huard led the Gryphons with a pair of goals while Teal Burns, Jefferies and Amestoy also scored. Ken Peroff and Nick Trecapelli assisted on two goals while Dan Broussard, James Merrett, Steve Strong and Huard each had one assist.
 
The two teams matched each other in shots at 38 each. Keith Hamilton was in net for the Gryphons making 43 saves while Josh Unice tallied 34.
 
Game two of the series will be Saturday, February 22 at the Gryphon Centre at 7:30 p.m.
