Box Score Guelph, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphon women's hockey team continued their dominance at home with a 4-1 win over the UOIT Ridgebacks on Sunday at the Gryphon Centre. The Gryphons move to 5-1-1 on the season, dropping UOIT to 5-3-1 and ending their three-game win streak.
Katie Mora (Guelph, Ont.) would grab the first goal of the game off of a face-off making it 1-0 at 8:58 with Jessica Pinkerton and Averi Nooren on the assists. Guelph's top line would continue to lead the way after the Ridgebacks would draw two penalties in a row, giving the Gryphons a two-man advantage. Mora would easily find space through the Ridgeback traffic and put the puck in the back of the net to give the Gryphons a 2-0 lead. UOIT would narrow the gap with seconds left in the first period, with Chelsea Ball (Maple, Ont.) punching the puck past Stephanie Nehring's (Oshawa, Ont.) pads, making it 2-1 for Guelph to end the first.
The Ridgebacks hoped to stage a third period comeback like they had two days prior against the Brock Badgers, but would not be able to beat Nehring. Jessica Pinkerton (Oshawa, Ont.) would put one more on the board at 16:15, with Averi Nooren (Aylmer, Ont.) capping off the 4-1 score with an empty netter with seconds left in the game.
Stephanie Nehring tallied up 16 saves in the win. Averi Nooren would have a three-point night with two assists and a goal in the final seconds of the game.
