Gryphons Stretch Win Streak to Four

Guelph, Ont. – (January 11, 2014) - The University of Guelph women's volleyball team stretched their win streak to four matches with a 3-0 victory over the RMC Paladins tonight in Kingston. Set scores were 25-16, 25-20 & 25-12.

The first set started well for the Gryphons as they established an early lead. RMC managed to close the gap to 3 points at 16-13, but Guelph expanded the lead again and won 25-16. Set 2 was a different story as the Paladins opened up a 5-1 lead, but the Gryphons reeled them in at the technical timeout leading 16-15. Guelph extended the lead to 5 points after 20 to win 25-20. The Gryphons jumped out to an early lead in the third set followed by a number of RMC hitting errors which allowed Guelph to win comfortably at 25-12.
 
Coach Funk said, "Getting wins on the road is always nice and we played well enough to win tonight but we will need a better energy level and focus for tomorrow's match to get a positive result."
 
Maddie DeDecker led the Guelph offense with 13 points (12 kills, 1 ace) followed by Rachel Petcoff with 10 (7 kills, 3 aces) while Kristen Almhjell led the defense with 22 digs.
 
The Gryphons wrap up their Kingston trip tomorrow when they take on the Queen's Gaels @ 1pm.
