GUELPH, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons finished their season opening weekend 3-0-1 at the Gryphon Soccer Complex on Sunday.

Sunday's first match was against the Brock Badgers. For most of the game the Gryphons and Badgers traded goals with the final score ending in a 9-9 tie. Scoring for the Gryphons were senior Dana Skyvington with three goals, Jade Sullivan and Katelyn Ayres each with a pair and Alyssa Nevills notching a single.

In the second match of the day and final game of the weekend the Gryphons defeated McGill 12-8. The coaching staff decided to play the ookies in this game, and they stepped up to the challenge. Freshman Hayley Cowls lead all scorers with a hat trick. Other rookies adding to the scoring were Katelyn Ayers with a pair and Taylor Kidd with a single. Rounding out the scoresheet were Dana Skyvington, Alyssa Nevills, Danielle Boudreau and Laurel McGillis.

"I am proud of the way our team played over the weekend," said head coach Steph Green. "Given the fact it was our opening weekend and we had four games in total, they played well and sent a message that the Gryphons are ready to challenge again this year. We came away with a few things we need to work on, but overall I was pleased with the way we played"

Next up for the Gryphons is McMaster and UOIT next weekend with both games being played at McMaster.
