GUELPH, Ont. – The Gryphons women's lacrosse team are geared up for another season of OUA women's lacrosse, with the official start to the new campaign getting underway on Sunday, September 7 when they host the Brock Badgers and Laurier Golden Hawks in their 2025 season-openers.
The 2025 OUA Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament will take place on the campus of Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo from Oct. 17-19. Gryphons third-year head coach,
Megan Shea, is excited for what is ahead for the team after a huge off-season. "The team put in so much work in a short space and time and kept it up throughout the summer. We saw the team level up throughout training camp and we can't wait to see the squad bring it all to the field this season."
Goalie
The goalie room for the Gryphons sees the return of
Sara Silano and
Madison Hungerbuhler for the 2025 season. Silano enters her third season with the team and Hungerbuhler heads into her second season as both goalies provide stability in goal for the Gryphs in an area of strength for the team.
Defence
Kirsten Sutter transitions from the midfield to the defence for this season after spending most of her time in the midfield last season. The Chatsworth, Ontario native will provide plenty of experience as one of the team captains. Last season's team Rookie of the Year,
McKenna Murray, returns to solidify the Gryphon defence. The biomedical engineering major led the team in minutes played from her position and led the team in forced turnovers last season. The Georgetown, Ontario native plays with great defensive positioning and does a good job of transitioning play up the field from her own end. Indy Webster joins program from Australia to help contribute to the Gryphon defence.
Midfield
Rachel McConvey returns to Guelph for her fourth season with team. The justice and legal studies major is one of the team captions for this season and was the team's leading scoring last year. The Toronto native was an OUA All-Star in 2022 and is a reliable presence in the midfield. Fourth-year midfield
Maya Gazzola is back to help lead this midfield. The human kinetics major from Mississauga is also a team captain for this upcoming season having established herself as a leader both on and off the field. Casey Hogan transfers into the program from St. Bonaventure where she played 4 years in Division 1 of the NCAA. Hogan, an applied human nutrition major, brings experience and composure to the midfield. Isabelle Ginmen headlines the 2025 rookie class. Ginmen comes to the Gryphons from Oshawa Jr. Elite Women's Lacrosse (JEWL) program following a successful season.
Attack

The Gryphon attack is led by the versatile
Payton Curtis. The marine and freshwater biology major moves back into a familiar attacking role after spending last season on defence. The Brampton native is an integral part of the team as she brings plenty of experience and her willingness to drive to the cage will be beneficial to the team's attack. Sarah Chapman is an exciting first-year player who brings tremendous stick work and lots of speed to the Gryphon attack. Chapman comes to Guelph after spending last year in the JEWL league with Halton Hills Bulldogs.
The Gryphons women's lacrosse team opens up regular season play at the University of Guelph's Varsity Field on Sunday morning (Sept. 7), with an 8:30am game against the Brock Badgers, followed by a 1:45pm matchup versus the Laurier Golden Hawks.
