KINGSTON, Ont. - The Guelph Gryphons women's lacrosse team headed to Kingston for the 2023 OUA Women's Lacrosse Championships this past weekend (Oct. 27-29). After posting a 1-1 record in pool play, the Gryphons faced off with the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks in the 5th-place match on Sunday, with Laurier coming out on top, giving the Gryphons a 6th-place finish (out of 9 universities competing) at this year's conference championship tournament.
The Gryphons opened up the tournament on Friday with their first pool play match against taking on the Western Mustangs. In a tough match for the Gryphons they would fall to the eventual OUA champion Mustangs, 15-3, to fall to 0-1 to start the 2023 championships. In their second match the team faced off with McMaster and defeated the Marauders 9-8, marking the second time this season the Gryphons had defeated the Marauders, with Guelph beating their rivals from Hamilton back in the opening game of the season on September 10. The Western Mustangs were crowned 2023 OUA Women's Lacrosse champions, defeating the host Queen's Gaels 9-6 in the gold medal game.
