GUELPH, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphon men's hockey team had their season come to an end tonight at the hands of the Windsor Lancers falling 1-0 in Game 2 of the OUA West Semifinal series in Guelph. The Gryphons fell 2-1 to the Lancers on Thursday in Game 1 of the best of three series.

The Gryphons went 17-9-2 in the regular season, finished fourth in the OUA West standings and wrap up the post season with a 2-3 record.

The first period was fast-paced, scoreless and no penalty minutes were recorded.  The Gryphons outshot the Lancers 16-9 in the period. Gryphon netminder, Andrew Loverock (Elmvale, ON), and Lancers netminder, Parker Van Buskirk (Windsor, ON), both played an excellent period while there was significant pressure maintained at both ends of the ice.

The second period ended with a 1-0 lead for the Windsor Lancers after a power play goal by Spencer Pommels (Grande Prairie, AB) at 16:01. It was a strong, one-time shot from just inside the blue line, which floated over the shoulder of Loverock. Assists were from Steve Ferry (Richmond Hill, ON) and Drew Palmer (Tecumseh, ON).  The Lancers outshot the Gryphons 15-6 during the second period.

In the third period the Gryphons fought hard for the equalizer, but were unable to find the back of the net. Guelph put up a good fight, pulling the goalie and calling a time out with under a minute left in the third, however Van Buskirk stood strong in net for the Lancers and Windsor took the series 2-0 and will advance to the OUA West finals.

Loverock made 30-of-31 saves on the night while Van Buskirk turned aside 30 shots for the shutout.

The Gryphons saluted their fans at the conclusion of the game and showed support to their graduating captain, Ed Gale (Keswick, ON).
