The Gryphons women's volleyball team began their pre-season schedule tonight (Sept. 21) with a 3-1 victory over the visiting UBC-Okanagan Heat. Set scores were 12-25, 26-24, 25-19 & 25-20.

The Gryphons used a variety of players in the line-up tonight getting solid contributions from Julie Gordon, Alanna Kirchner and Jenn Johnstone among others.

"We started very poorly tonight and were overwhelmed by UBC-O in the first set and it didn't look good early on. But we started to pass and serve the ball better in the second set and found some rhythm," said Coach Paul Funk. "We sided out well in sets three and four and the Heat seemed to struggle with our serve which really was the difference tonight."

The two teams will train together tomorrow and play another match this Sunday (Sept. 23) at 10:30 a.m. at the W.F. Mitchell Athletic Center to wrap up the weekend.
