Gryphons fall to Marauders, 3-1

HAMILTON, Ont. - The University of Guelph women's volleyball team dropped an important 3-1 decision to the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton tonight. Set scores were 11-25, 9-25, 30-28 & 15-25.

Guelph fell behind right from the start as McMaster built a 16-4 lead at the technical timeout cruising to an easy 25-11 win. The Marauders reeled off a 10-0 run early in set two to win 25-9. With a new lineup on the floor for the third set, the Gryphons fell behind early again but a seven point run equaled the set. Guelph built a three point lead that they held until the end of the set when another McMaster surge evened things late. Both teams had set point opportunities but the Gryphons squeezed out a 30-28 win. Early in set four, McMaster went on a 7-0 run that allowed them to easily win the set and the match at 25-15.

Coach Funk stated, "We didn't compete tonight. It's my job to get these players to perform and I obviously failed to do that tonight."
