The University of Guelph women's volleyball team dropped their opening game at the McMaster Thanksgiving tournament on Thursday afternoon losing 3-0. Set scores were 18-25, 19-25 & 19-25.
Guelph was ahead in the first set 12-9, but a 13-3 run by Ryerson enabled them to win 25-18.
Set two was also close through the early stages, but Ryerson went on another 11-3 run to close out the set 25-19.
A new Gryphon line up to start the third set started with good energy, but could not hold off the Rams and lost 25-19.
"To put it bluntly, this was our worst match of the pre-season," said Coach Funk. "You can't make as many mental and physical errors as we did and expect to win a match. We have to be far more ready to compete at the start of the match tomorrow if we hope to get a different result."
Offensively, Guelph was led by Julie Gordon (6 kills) and Stephanie Vickers (5 kills, 1 ace) with 6 points each. Guelph continues the tournament Friday at 11am against either Western or York.
