Guelph 1 vs. Ryerson 3 (27-25, 22-25, 20-25, 21-25)
The University of Guelph women's volleyball team dropped another match this afternoon falling to the Ryerson Rams 3-1. Set scores were 27-25, 22-25, 20-25, 21-25. The first set was close with neither team leading by more than a couple of points but Guelph snuck out the win at 27-25.
The Gryphons took a 5 point lead into the technical time out in set 2 at 16-11, but gave up a five point run and later a 3 point run to drop the set 25-22. The third set was very similar with the teams tied at 18, but another 4-0 run by Ryerson decided the set at 25-20. In set 4, the trend continued with the teams battling to 18 all, but a 6-0 run near the end sealed the set and match win for Ryerson at 25-21.
Coach Funk said, "For the second match in a row, we competed for the first two-thirds of the sets, and then fell apart at the crucial times. Our frustration is in two parts I think; firstly we are lacking in confidence as a group and secondly, we are making mistakes in all skill areas."
Brooke Lloyd was Guelph's top scorer with 15 points (10 kills, 4 blocks, 1 ace) followed by Erinn Bickle with 14 (10 kills, 3 blocks, 1 ace).
The Gryphons continue their schedule next weekend on Friday at Waterloo and on Saturday at home to Brock.Â
