Gryphons drop match to Marauders, 3-0

The University of Guelph women's volleyball team dropped a key match tonight to the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton tonight. Set scores were 25-17, 25-22 & 26-24.

The first set was a back and forth affair with the both teams siding out well. However, after the technical time out, McMaster used a 9-3 run to take the set 25-17. Set 2 started out close as well but McMaster opened up an 18-14 lead and Guelph could not close the gap in losing 25-22. The third set again was a back and forth fight with neither team opening up a significant lead. With McMaster trailing 20-18, a time out changed the momentum as they scored the next 4 points to take the lead 22-20. The Gryphons succeeded in tying the game at 24 but McMaster sealed the match victory with 2 more points to win 26-24.

Coach Funk stated, "We simply did not play well enough tonight to win. We needed to execute at a high level tonight and we didn't in a number of skill areas, blocking and serve receive most notably. We need to turn our fortunes around quickly if we are to stay in the playoff hunt." Guelph's offense was led by Erinn Bickle with 9 points (5 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks).
