The Guelph Gryphon men's hockey team shutout the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-0 tonight in game one of the OUA West semifinals in Waterloo.  The Gryphons outshot the Golden Hawks 38-24 en route to the victory. The Gryphons earned goals from Matt Lyall, Edward Gale and Kris Belan. Meanwhile Andrew Loverock earned the win in net stopping all 24 Laurier shots on net.  

 

Game two of the three-game semifinal series will take place at the Gryphon Centre on Saturday (Feb. 26) at 7:30 p.m. The game will be webcast live on www.ssncanada.ca

 

Edward Gale (Keswick, Ont.) would get on the board for the Gryphons at 7:18 of the first period. The Hawks had a power play opportunity at the end of the frame but could not capitalize. They went 0-for-3 on the night.

 

Laurier would not fare much better in the second as Matt Lyall (Richmond Hill, Ont.) scored his first of the playoffs. Kris Belan (Florence ,Ont.) recorded his fourth in the post-season on the power play to give the Gryphons a three goal lead after two.

 

Laurier head coach pulled his goalie, Ryan Daniels after making 25 saves on 28 shots. Replacing him was David Clement of Oakville, Ont. He stopped all ten shots he faced in the third.
