The Guelph Gryphons and Western Mustangs added another chapter in the long history of battles between the foes with Western coming out on top 6-4. 

The game was played at high speed with plenty of end to end rushes and great scoring chances for both teams.  Guelph opened the scoring on goals by Cale Jefferies (Glenboro, Mn.) with assists to Pat Campbell (Sauble Beach, ON) and Jamie MacIntyre (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) and followed by Marco Franchini (Woodbridge, ON) on a setup by Ben Holtom (Barrie, ON).  Western responded before the end of the period with goals by Chris Rocca (Sarnia, ON) and Keaton Turkiewicz (Brantford, ON)

Western grabbed the lead 3-2 on a marker by Zach Harnden (Thunder Bay, ON) but the Gryphons Kris Belan (Florence, ON) tied it up at three with a great individual effort on a shorthanded breakaway after blocking a shot.  Guelph outshot Western 13-11 in the second.

Eventually in the third period the Gryphons fatigue, due to playing the last six weeks without many injured veterans, finally caught up to them. Western jumped ahead 6-3 on goals by Turkiewicz and Kevin Baker (Georgetown, ON), before Turkiewicz completed the hattrick. 

Guelph battled to the end and scored on the powerplay with Belan getting his second of the game on assists from J.T. Macdonald (Niagara Falls, ON) and Ken Peroff (Astorville, ON).

Guelph went 1/8 on the powerplay while Western went 0/3. Cody St. Jacques (Iroquois Falls, ON) went the distance for the Gryphons while Alain Valiquette (Sudbury, ON) went all the way for the Mustangs. Guelph outshot Western 42-29 on the evening.
   
The Gryphons will break for exams now and head back into action on Thursday, December 29 when they host the University of Toronto Blues at the Gryphon Centre at 7:30 P.M.
