The University of Guelph women's volleyball team got back in the win column with a 3-0 road victory over the Windsor Lancers last night (Nov. 25).
Set scores were 25-10, 25-12 & 25-16.
Guelph started the match jumping out to a quick 5-0 lead and never let Windsor string together any points with the combination of some good blocking and Windsor errors winning 25-10.
Set 2 was much of the same with the Lancers giving away a lot of points and the Gryphons cruising to a 25-12 win. Guelph again started fast in the third set before Windsor briefly came to life to narrow the score to 6-5. However from there, the Gryphons were able to side out effectively and coast to a comfortable 25-16 victory.
"It was good for us to get a win after stewing for a couple of weeks after our previous defeat. We weren't challenged tonight for more than a couple of points in a row, but our crew followed our game plan which made it a relatively easy win for us," said Coach Paul Funk. "We will definitely face a challenge in our last match before the break at Western."
Brooke Lloyd led the offence for Guelph with 16 points (12 kills, 3 aces, 1 block) followed by Erinn Bickle with 14 (10 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks).
The Gryphons will wrap up their first half next Saturday when they travel to Western to take on the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m.
