The Guelph Gryphons six game point came to an end Saturday night in Thunder Bay when they lost a tight game to Lakehead 5-4.
The Gryphons jumped to an early 2-0 lead on goals by
Kristafer Belan and
Justin Gvora on an assist by
Jon-Thomas MacDonald. Lakehead responded with a goal of their own by Keith Grondin before Guelph restored the two goal on a marker from
Nathan Martine on a beautiful setup by Belan. But before the period ended the Thunderwolves pulled within one on a goal by Mike Hammond. Guelph led 3-2 after one.
Lakehead's powerplay came to life in the second on goals from Adam Sergerie and Mike Quesnele before Guelph responded with one of their own from
Philip Teri on a redirected shot by
Mark Pawlowski (Mississauga) with a pass from Macdonald.
The Thunderwolves won the game in the dying minutes on a powerplay goal from Quesnele. Guelph outshot Lakehead 34-28 on the evening and went scoreless on the powerplay while Lakehead was 3/6 with the man advantage.
Cody St Jacques went the distance for Guelph while Alex Dupuis played for the Thunderwolves.
The road trip continues for the Gryphons when they play in Waterloo on Thurs. @ 7:30 P.M. against their arch rivals.
