Â
GUELPH, Ont. - The University of Guelph women's volleyball team dropped a five set decision to the RMC Paladins at the W.F. Mitchell Athletic Center on Saturday night. Set scores were 22-25, 25-9, 22-25, 25-14 & 12-15.
Â
The first set started with RMC getting out to an early lead and holding it the whole way in winning 25-22. Set two was highlighted by an eight point serving run by
Kaitlyn Krizmanich (Carlisle, Ont.) which allowed Guelph to even the match with a 25-9 win. The third set was very similar to the first with RMC establishing an early lead and carrying it through to the finish winning 25-22. The Gryphons again used strong serving to build a lead in set four winning 25-14. The fifth set saw RMC lead 8-4 at the change over and Guelph was never able to narrow the gap to less than two points as RMC took the set and the match with a 15-12 win.
Â
"I give RMC credit for playing well when they needed to. I thought that when we extended the match to the fifth set that we would pull it out, but as a group we were not very composed," said head coach
Paul Funk. "As good as we were in the fifth the previous night, we were equally poor in the fifth tonight."
Â
Guelph's efforts were led by
Megan Canavan's 21 digs. The Gryphons next action is Friday Nov. 25 when they travel to Windsor to take on the Lancers.
