Jan. 8: Guelph 3 – Laurier 0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-17)
WATERLOO – The University of Guelph women's volleyball team completed a road sweep in Waterloo tonight as they defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-0.
The Gryphons came out of the gate with great energy and focus in the first set opening up a 10-3 lead. Guelph was able to maintain a comfortable lead throughout the set to win 25-16. Set 2 was much of the same as the Gryphons' side out game was rolling never allowing Laurier a run of points in winning by an identical 25-16 score. The third set was closer through the early going, but Guelph opened up a lead later to complete the victory with a 25-17 win.
"I challenged our team to come out strong and focused tonight and unlike the previous night, we didn't experience any lulls in the match. That consistent execution along with solid serve receiving were the keys to a solid win tonight," said coach Paul Funk.
The Gryphons were led on offence by Kylen Van Osch with 14 points (8 kills, 2 aces, 4 blocks) followed by Brooke Lloyd with 11 (10 kills, 1 block) and Claire Sandor with 8 (6 kills, 2 blocks).
The Gryphons' (9-2) next action is at home next weekend against West Division rival Western on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
