The Gryphons lone goal would come from Jake Lalonde (Sudbury, Ont.), with Alex Magera (Edmonton, Alta.) chipping in the assist. Scott Van Bommel (Norwich, Ont.) played between the pipes for Guelph, stopping 16 of 19 shots.

With the loss, the Gryphons drop to 9-10-4, while the Warriors improve to 15-6-1.

The Gryphons were plagued with penalties in the first, putting the pressure on Van Bommel and the special teams, as they were forced to kill four penalties in the frame. Guelph was successful on three of four attempts, but the Waterloo powerplay score would put the Warriors up by two.

The Warriors first goal came only two minutes prior to the powerplay goal. A poor clearing attempt by the Gryphon defence left Warrior captain Chris Ray alone with Van Bommel and the captain capitalized on the chance putting away the first of the game.

Guelph fought their way back midway through the second on the goal by Jake Lalonde. As Alex Magera worked his way into the net, he left a nifty little drop pass for Lalonde who came streaking in from the sideboards, using his momentum to wire one past the Waterloo netminder.

Unfortunately for the Gryphons, the Warriors would gain their insurance back before the end of the period on a late powerplay goal, making the score 3-1 Waterloo.

Both teams came out firing on all cylinders in the third, keeping the intensity high and the scoring chances frequent. After twenty minutes though, neither team would find the back of the net leaving the score 3-1 in favour of the Waterloo Warriors.

The Gryphons are back at it on Thursday night (Jan. 28), as they play host to the Brock Badgers. The last meeting with the Badgers was in the Steel Blade Tournament Finals where Guelph handed them a 4-1 loss to take the tournament championship. The puck will drop at 7:30pm at

Gryphon Centre.
