The Gryphon men's hockey team dropped to 1-3-0-1 this week after dropping two games on the road to Laurier and Waterloo.
On Thursday night the Gryphons lost 4-3 in a shootout to Laurier. Laurier's Paul Bradley scored the lone goal in the shootout. Gryphon goalie Scott VanBommel (Norwich, Ont.) finished with 31 saves in the loss.
After being down 3-1 to enter the third period, Guelph's Matt Lyall (Richmond Hill, Ont.) and JT Macdonald (St. Catharine's) scored in the third to send the game into overtime. The other Gryphon goal scorer on the night was Derek Knowles (Vanderhoof, BC).
A scoreless overtime, sent the game to a shootout where Guelph's Edward Gale (Keswick, Ont.), Thomas Kiriakou (Richmond Hill) and Matt Lyall were turned away by Laurier goalie Jeff MacDougald.
The next night, the team dropped a 4-2 decision to the CIS No. 10 Waterloo Warriors. Jon Thomas Macdonald (Niagara Falls, Ont.) and Cale Jefferies (Glenboro, MB) scored for Guelph. Goaltender Scott VanBommel recorded 22 saves.
Van Bommel finished with an impressive 2.94 goals against ave. for the two games.
