His teammates swarmed him. The student section stormed the court. And he single-handedly blew up the Gryphons social media channels. Taylor Boers has earned Gryphon Athlete of the Week honours after hitting one of the most memorable shots in the history of the Gryphons Men's Basketball program. On Friday night (January 15), Boers and his Gryphon teammates found themselves trailing 80-79 to the Windsor Lancers with just 1.5 seconds remaining in regulation.

The Gryphons had possession and were set to inbounds the ball from Windsor's baseline with time left for one last shot. The stage was set for a good old fashioned buzzer beater. And Boers delivered. Off of the ensuing inbounds, the Belleville native came open late and received a Daniel Dooley pass just inside the three point line. After a quick release, Boers watched as his high arching shot went through as the final horn sounded. That shot, which Boers would later describe as "hands down the biggest shot of [his] life" sent the W.F. Mitchell Athletics Centre into a frenzy and gave the Gryphons an 81-80 victory over the Lancers.

While the shot itself was epic, the result of the game was also important for the Gryphons in their pursuit of a spot in the OUA playoffs. With that victory, the Gryphons (3-5) moved into third in the OUA Central division. The top three teams in each division qualify for the postseason. Boers and the Gryphons now play each of their next six games on the road before returning home on February 17.
