Through the first three games of the regular season, fourth year guard Dana Van Balkom (Hamilton, Ont.) had not scored more than six points in a game. This past Wednesday (Nov. 19), she poured in 22 points as the Gryphon women’s basketball team rolled to a 75-43 win over the York Lions. Van Balkom was lights out from beyond the arc, going five of eight from three point territory. Overall, she shot an efficient seven of 12 from the field to lead all scorers on the night with 22 points. Dana has turned into one of the top three point shooters in the league, having knocked down 10 three pointers on the season (second-highest total in the OUA) while connecting on 52.6% of her attempts from beyond (third-highest total in the OUA). Van Balkom, who has knocked down at least one three pointer in all five games this season, was impressive again on Friday (Nov. 21) in the Gryphon’s 65-55 loss to the No. 10 Queen’s Gaels. In that game, Van Balkom was two of three from beyond the arc and finished with 12 points.Â
