Matt grew up near Wingham, Ontario, and his interest in nordic skiing began when he joined the nordic ski team at his high school. Matt raced competitively in high school before joining the Gryphons Nordic team in the 2010/2011 season as he entered his first year of studies in the Honours Agricultural Sciences program. He raced with the team through all four years of his undergraduate degree and continued racing during his first year of studies in a MSc. Plant Agriculture degree. He then went on to assume the role of assistant coach in 2015/2016 before taking the reins as head coach in the 2016/2017 season. Matt enjoys seeing the skiers improve throughout the fall training season and his favourite part is watching the Gryphons excel at the OUA Championships every year.
When Matt isn't coaching the Gryphons skiers, he enjoys training for triathlons, helping out on his family's farm, or spending time renovating his house in Cambridge, ON.
