Carly Haggard


After two seasons as an assistant coach with the Guelph Gryphon’s women’s hockey team, Carly Haggard took over as interim head coach for the 2011-12 season during Rachel Flanigan’s one year maternity leave.

 

Haggard came to Guelph with many years of national and international playing and coaching experience. Prior to retiring from her extensive playing career, Carly played professional hockey in HC Lugano, Switzerland (2007 – 2009), where she was named the league’s MVP both seasons. Carly led her team to two league championships and two appearances at the European Cup championships.

 

Prior to her playing stint in Europe, Carly played hockey for the Oakville Ice in the National Women’s Hockey League. During her playing time, she was also an assistant coach for the Oakville Junior Hockey Team.

 

1999 – 2003 Haggard attended Dartmouth College, where she graduated with a major in Sociology and a minor in Psychology. She was a standout player, winning many awards, including, a two time finalist for the prestigious Patty Kazmaeir Award, given to the top player in US College hockey, Rookie of the Year, Ivy league and ECAC Player of the Year and was named to the All American Team. During her college career, she was a two sport athlete, playing both hockey and softball. In 2002, Haggard was named the Dartmouth Female Athlete of the Year. Haggard also played for the Canadian Under 22 National Team for three years, where she competed in several international challenges.

 

After college, Carly started the PASS Female Hockey School in BC, where she trains and mentors girls at all ages and levels in their hockey careers.
