Name: Rachel Keirstead
Position: Intramural Office.
What are you responsible for in your position?
As someone in the Intramural Office my role is to assist in the day to day operations involved with intramural sports such as registering teams, inputting scores, and responding to participants emails. I also help run the intramural Instagram account so I take a lot of photos and videos of games to post.
Why do you love working for the UofG, Department of Athletics?
I love working here because we have such a family feel in the intramural office. All of the employees are really close and work well together, and then we get to know the participants pretty well too. It is fun to work in a place where students can avoid the stress of school for a bit by coming out and playing intramural sports. As a student who is graduating soon, one of the things I am dreading about leaving Guelph is that I will no longer be working in the Intramural Office.
What was your proudest moment in this job?
My proudest moment is a combination of all the small things we do. All the behind the scenes work of registering teams, having the championship t-shirt contest to enter scores and setting up for playoffs. It really pays of when you see how excited teams are when they win a championship, and how competitive final games can get.
I’m proud to work for the best University in Canada because…..
I’m proud to work for the best University in Canada because we have one of the best intramural programs in the country, thanks to our amazing staff and student participants!
What have you learned from this job?
I have learned how extensive our athletics department is, and that intramurals is only a small chunk. A lot goes on behind the scenes that students don't see, but it is nice to see how much people enjoy playing intramurals so all the work is definitely worth it.
If you could give advice to students looking for a campus job what would it be?
My advice to student’s looking for a campus position is to apply to everything that interests you! You never know where you may end up loving to work. I applied to a few different Peer Helper positions on campus and it ended up that I was accepted to the Intramural Office and I have loved it ever since!
