GUELPH, Ont. – The Gryphons women's hockey team played their final two
home games of their 2025-26 regular season schedule, with the Gryphons picking up home wins over the York Lions (Feb. 6) and Brock Badgers (Feb. 7). With the weekend home sweep, the Gryphons improve their overall record to 19-2-3 on the season and takeover sole possession of
top spot in the OUA West Division standings with 57 points as they have a three-point lead over the 2nd-place Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks heading into the final two games of the regular season. Guelph took over sole possession in the division on Saturday night following Laurier's 3-1 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday night (Feb. 7). The Gryphons and Golden Hawks are set to meet up in the regular season finale on Saturday, Feb. 14 in Waterloo.

On Friday night (Feb. 6), the Gryphons women's hockey team hosted the York Lions and used a three-goal outburst in the 2nd period to earn the 3-1 win on home ice. With the Lions leading 1-0, Guelph would respond on the power play as

Deija Houston on the side of the net as the second-year forward popped home her 8th goal of the season to tie it up. The Gryphons would mount plenty of pressure on the York net throughout the period as their hard work would pay off with a pair of goals from Katie Dance in a span of 1:45 late in the 2nd. Dance, a third-year forward from Aylmer, Ontario, jumped on a rebound and scored to put her side up 2-1. The child and youth studies major would strike again 1:45 later as
Deija Houston from behind the net, found Dance who caught York goalie Olivia Tran out of position and lasered one home for her second goal of the game and 5th goal of the season as the Gryphons would take a 3-1 lead and win their 5th straight game. Guelph outshot the Lions 28-8 over the final two periods, and 34-13 in the game.
Sophie Helfenstein only needed to make 12 saves on the night, but made some important saves in the 3rd to preserve the win.
Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026 | Gryphons Defeat Badgers 8-0 in their Regular Season Home Finale
The Gryphons women's hockey team played their final regular season
home game on Saturday night (Feb. 7) when they hosted the Brock Badgers where came away with the 6-0 shutout win. The Gryphons carried were dominant from start to finish to earn their 19th win of the season. Guelph grabbed the 1-0 lead as Katie Dance continued her hot streak, getting her stick on the
Teghan MacRae point shot and deflecting it into the back of the net for the game's opening goal, midway through the first. For the Aylmer, Ontario native, the goal was her third in back-to-back nights. Maddie Min later in the period doubled the Gryphon lead when she lasered home her third goal of the season from the point on the power play.
Maeve Sutherland-Case made it a 3-0 game when she scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season from a tight angle. Guelph scored 5 times in the third with goals from
Deija Houston and
Katherine Heard.
Maeve Sutherland-Case scored her second of the game in the period and
Michelle Gao with two goals in the period in the 8-0 win.
Sophie Helfenstein made 18 saves for her OUA leading 8th shutout of the season and moved into a tie for top spot in the conference with 15 wins. With the loss, the Brock Badgers fall to 11-11-2 on the regular season and remain in the final play-in spot of the OUA West Division playoffs with 33 points.
The women's hockey team will head out to the road for their final two games of the regular season when they take on the Brock Badgers on Thursday night (Feb. 12) from Thorold before making the trip to Waterloo to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday night (Feb. 14) with top spot in the OUA West Division on the line.
