Ella Cahill (Women's Soccer)
This week's 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week'
Ella Cahill lit the fuse for the Gryphons women's soccer team, helping them book their spot in the OUA Championship Game for a second consecutive season. Cahill, the third-year bio-medical science major from Milton scored a pair of goals in the 14th and 23rd minute in similar fashion with two great one-time finishes to put the Gryphons up by two. Her goals gave Guelph the cushion they needed in their 3-1 OUA Semifinal victory over the Nipissing Lakers. Ella's goalscoring prowess on the wing has been on display all season, scoring 4 times to go along with her 3 assists in her 10 regular season starts. Cahill and the Gryphons advances to the 2026 OUA Championship Game on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 7) when they host the OUA East's top seed Ottawa Gee-Gees from the Gryphon Soccer Complex at 1pm.
Jack Lehto (Men's Cross Country)
Jack Lehto continued his marvelous 2026 season as he takes home this week's 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' honours for the second time this season. Lehto, the fifth-year mechanical engineering major from Burlington was the first racer to cross the line out of 100 racers at the 2026 OUA Cross Country Championships on Saturday (Oct. 31) from Malden Park in Windsor to claim the individual title. The win was Jack's third win of this season after previously earning wins at the Vigars and Salters Western Invitational and the Marauder Lakefront Open. Lehto clocked in with a time of 23:56.2, finishing :26 seconds ahead of the next closest racer. With the victory, Lehto became the 16th men's individual cross country champion in program history. The individual championship for Jack marked the third consecutive season he finished in a podium spot at OUA's where he won back-to-back individual bronze medals in 2024 and 2025. Lehto also earned OUA First Team All-Star status for a third consecutive year. Jack and the men's cross country team had a great showing at OUA's, finishing in 2nd place in the team standings to take home a team silver medal. Lehto and the Gryphon cross country team will close out their season with one final meet in Hamilton for the 2026 U SPORTS Cross Country Championships.
