GUELPH, Ont. – Throughout the 2026-27 season, the University of Guelph Department of Athletics will be highlighting various members from our Gryphon varsity programs as part of our 'Gryph's Locker Athletes of the Week, presented by POWERADE' series.
Katie Kimens (women's soccer) and
Ambrose Tinmouth (men's soccer) have been named 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' for the period covering of October 19 to 25, 2026.
Katie Kimens (Women's Soccer)
An impressive performance from
Katie Kimens (Maple, ON) in the OUA quarterfinals sees her earn this week's 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' honours. Kimens, a fifth-year standout defender, played a huge part in her team's 3-0 quarterfinal win over the Western Mustangs on Saturday (Oct. 24). The Gryphons women's soccer team is coming off their first undefeated regular season in program history, earning the No. 1 overall seed in the OUA playoffs, and had one of their leaders step up. Kimens, studying her Master's at the University of Guelph in human health and nutritional sciences, opened the scoring for the Gryphs in the 17th minute, heading home the
Cassidy Anderson corner to give her side the 1-0 lead. Kimens would be involved in another Gryphon goal off a corner 8 minutes later, picking up an assist on
Isabella Trepanier's goal to double Guelph's lead. Katie's presence was also felt on backline of the Gryphon defence, holding the Mustangs to three total shots in the match with only two shots on target in the 90 minutes. Kimens and the Gryphons women's soccer team return to action on Saturday (Oct. 31) from the Gryphon Soccer Complex when they host the Nipissing Lakers in the OUA semifinals.
Ambrose Tinmouth (Men's Soccer)
Ambrose Tinmouth is 'Gryphon Athlete of the Week' for the second time this season following a pair of big-game performances, helping send the Gryphons men's soccer team into the semifinals of the OUA playoffs. Tinmouth, a fifth-year winger/centre attacking midfielder, was influential in both of his team's playoff wins over the Waterloo Warriors in the Preliminary Round and the York Lions in the quarterfinals. The management economics and finance major from Comox, BC against the Warriors on Wednesday night (Oct. 21) scored a pair of spectacular second half goals in his team's 4-1 win in the preliminary round. Tinmouth led the team with 9 total shots and 5 shots on target in Waterloo. In Saturday night's (Oct. 24) quarterfinal matchup against the reigning national champions and No. 2-nationally ranked York Lions, Tinmouth found the target yet again, scoring in the 57th minute to give his Gryphons a 3-1 lead. The goal was Tinmouth's third of the postseason as it was the insurance goal which helped his side pull off one of the biggest upsets in program history to advance to the OUA semifinals. Next up for the Gryphons men's soccer team, an OUA semifinal match against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks from Vaso's Field in Oshawa on Saturday (Oct. 31) with kickoff scheduled for 3pm, with the winner of that match earning a berth to nationals and a spot in the 2026 OUA gold medal game.
