NORTH BAY & SUDBURY, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons women's basketball team split a pair of road games on the weekend during a northern Ontario road trip to North Bay and Sudbury. The Gryphons record on the season now sits at 15-4, with Guelph remaining in 1st-place in the OUA West, as the Gryphons currently hold the tiebreaker over the Windsor Lancers, who also boast a 15-4 record. Just three games now remain in Guelph's 2025-26 regular season schedule, with Guelph returning to home court next weekend to host TMU (Feb. 6) and Algoma (Feb. 8).
Game 1 (Friday, Jan. 30) | Guelph 77 – Nipissing 68
On Friday night (Jan. 30), the Gryphons women's basketball team made their way to North Bay for a Friday night matchup with the Nipissing Lakers, where Gryphons forward
Christina Morra stole the show. Morra, a 6-foot-2 forward who is in her first season as a Gryphon after having previously played south of the border at Wake Forest, put together the best performance of her U of G career, pouring in a game-high 33 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field, and 13-of-14 from the free throw line. The 25-year-old from Mississauga, who is currently pursuing her Masters in public health at the University of Guelph, also had 10 rebounds on the night, as the Gryphons outscored Nipissing, 47-32, in the second half to leave North Bay with a 77-68 victory. The win pushed Guelph's record to 15-3 on the season, while the Nipissing Lakers fell to 5-12.
Game 2 (Saturday, Jan. 31) | Guelph 71 – Laurentian 79
On Saturday afternoon, the Gryphons made their way to Sudbury Arena to face the Laurentian Voyageurs. One night after pouring in 33 points, Gryphons forward
Christina Morra once again helped lead the way with 25 points and 10 rebounds. But the Gryphons struggled to get stops on the defensive end in the game, with the host Voyageurs shooting 47.5% from the field en route to a 79-71 victory over the Gryphons. The loss moved Guelph's record on the season to 15-4, while the Voyageurs improved to 10-8 with the win.
