MBB RECAP: A Fast Gryphon Start Fuels Them to 95-70 Win over Laurier

GUELPH, Ont. -  A fast start from the Gryphons men's basketball team leads them to a 95-70 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Wednesday night (Jan. 21) from the Guelph Gryphons Athletics Centre. The Gryphons came out of the locker room and started the game firing on all cylinders from the field. With Laurier leading 10-9, the Gryphons would break the game open with an 18-2 run to lead 27-12 as it'd would be more than enough for their 9th win of the season. Guelph opened the game making 12 of their first 20 baskets in the first quarter as they shot 47.3% in the game as a team. Turnovers played a major role in the game as the Gryphons only had 11 give aways in the game while coming away with 14 steals on 24 Golden Hawk turnovers and scoring 31 points off those turnovers. Balanced scoring for the Gryphs as five players finished with double-digit points led by Eric Armstrong's game high 21 points. Jack Tunstill finished with 18 points on the night, Mazen Yagubi with 17 points and Amare Hamilton had 15 off the bench. Emmanuel Black also had a 10 point, 10 rebound double-double in the victory.

The Gryphons improve to 9-8 on the regular season as they'll head up north for a pair of games next weekend. First, they'll be in North Bay on Friday night (Jan. 30) to take on the Nipissing Lakers before heading to Sudbury for a Saturday night (Jan. 31) matchup with the Laurentian Voyageurs.
