NORTH BAY & SUDBURY, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons men's basketball team split a pair of road games on the weekend during a northern Ontario road trip to North Bay and Sudbury. The Gryphons record on the season now sits at 10-9, with just three games now remaining in Guelph's 2025-26 regular season schedule. The Gryphons will be back on home court next weekend to host TMU (Feb. 6) and Algoma (Feb. 8), before playing in their regular season finale on Feb. 13 at York.
Game 1 (Friday, Jan. 30) | Guelph 88 – Nipissing 66
On Friday night (Jan. 30), the Gryphons men's basketball team made their way to North Bay for a Friday night matchup with the Nipissing Lakers. The Gryphons used a balanced scoring attack, with four players in double figures, led by
Eric Armstrong's game-high 20 points. Second-year guard,
Mazen Yagubi (St. Catharines, ON), helped lead the way for the Gryphons with 14 points (4-of-7 from beyond the arc) while adding 4 assists.
Jack Tunstill added 12 points, 9 rebounds and 4 steals. Guelph held Nipissing to 39.7% shooting from the floor and 25% (4-16) shooting from three. The win improved Guelph's record to 10-8 on the season, while the Nipissing Lakers fell to 6-12.
Game 2 (Saturday, Jan. 31) | Guelph 65 – Laurentian 76
On Saturday (Jan. 31), the Gryphons made their way to Sudbury Arena to face the Laurentian Voyageurs. The Gryphons were unable to recover after a slow start, with Laurentian outscoring Guelph 21-12 in the opening quarter. The Voyageurs were led by their second-year guard, Brice Fandio (Marseille, France). Fandio, who averages 19.5 PPG on the season, finished with 29 points to lead Laurentian to the 11-point victory.
Jack Tunstill (19 points, 6 rebounds) and
Eric Armstrong (18 points, 8 rebounds) led the way for Guelph in the loss. With the result, the Gryphons record drops to 10-9 on the season, while Laurentian improves to 9-9.
