MVB RECAP: Gryphons Split Road Doubleheader with No. 7-ranked Queen’s Gaels

KINGSTON, Ont. – The Gryphons men's volleyball team started 2026 the same way they ended 2025, with a victory of a U SPORTS Top 10-ranked opponent. On Friday night (Jan. 9) in Kingston, the Gryphons defeated the No. 7-ranked Queen's Gaels in straight sets (26-24, 28-26 & 25-16). The victory for Guelph marked their third consecutive win over a Top 10 opponent, with the Gryphons sweeping the then-No. 4-ranked Windsor Lancers in back-to-back matchups on November 28 and 29 in Guelph.

In Guelph's win over Queen's on Friday night, second-year outside hitter Killian Donovan (Sydney, Australia) led the way with a team-high 11 kills. The 6-foot-4 management major currently ranks 2nd in the OUA and 5th in the country in kills with 161 on the season.

On Saturday night (Jan. 10), the Gryphons and Gaels were one again at it, with the reigning OUA champion Gaels this time coming out on top in three tightly-contested sets (27-29, 23-25 & 24-26). With the weekend split in Kingston, the Gryphons record now sits at 7-5 on the season (5th in the OUA standings), while the Queen's Gaels move to 9-3 (2nd in OUA standings).

The Gryphons (7-5) have eight games remaining in their 20-game regular season schedule and will be idle next week before returning to action on January 24 and 25 with a pair of road games against the York Lions (6-6, 8th in OUA standings).
