KINGSTON, Ont. - In a showdown between two the No. 1 and No. 2-ranked teams in the country on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 13) in Kingston, the No. 1-ranked Gryphons women's rugby team were unable to overcome the first half deficit as they fall to No. 2-ranked Queen's Gaels 54-31. The Gryphons were unable to gain any early momentum in the match as the Gaels scored the first three tries of the match before Guelph got on the board in the 33rd minute with a try of their own. Queen's before the half shut down the potential Guelph rally before the half, scoring two more tries to take a 33-7 lead at the break as it was enough for the hosts to come away with the win. Despite the loss, the Gryphons in the second half showed fight and resolve, outscoring the Gaels 24-21 in the half. The Gryphons (2-1) will now shift their focus to next Sunday (Sept. 21) when they look to bounce back as they travel to Waterloo to take on the Warriors.
