MHKY RECAP: Olivier Ciarlo Makes 48 Saves in Gryphons 3-1 Road Win at TMU

TORONTO, Ont. – The Gryphons men's hockey team picked up a 3-1 road win on Saturday night (Nov. 8, 2025) in Toronto against the TMU Bold. Gryphons rookie goalie, Olivier Ciarlo, put on an incredible performance, stopping 48 of 49 shots sent his way to lead Guelph to a gritty 3–1 win over TMU at the Mattamy Athletic Centre. With the win, the Gryphons improve to 6-3-1 on the season and move up to 3rd-place in the OUA West Division standings. With the loss, TMU falls to 5-5-0. TMU outshot the Gryphons, 49–19, on the net, but Gryphons rookie netminder, Olivier Ciarlo stood tall from start to finish, singlehandedly keeping Guelph in control and stealing two points on the road.

Guelph opened the scoring midway through the first period when Jack Wismer buried his 6th of the season, assisted by Dylan Hudon. In the second, captain Nathan Allensen extended the lead to 2–0 with a shot from the point, set up by Anthony Tabak. TMU finally broke through early in the third on the power play, as Gavin Grundner converted a setup from William Portokalis and Joseph Ianniello, cutting the deficit to one. But any hopes of a comeback were taken away late in the third when Chase Lammi scored unassisted at 16:32 to seal the win. The Gryphons went 0-for-3 on the power play but made up for it with an outstanding penalty kill, stopping 3 of TMU's 4 opportunities. The Gryphons (6-3-1) will return to the ice on Friday, Nov. 14 for another road game in Toronto, this time against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues (5-3-1). Guelph will then return home for a Sunday afternoon (Nov. 16) 2:30pm puck drop against the Waterloo Warriors (5-6-0).
