SHERBROOKE, QC – For the first time since 2021, the Guelph Gryphons men's cross country team has earned a spot on the national podium. And for the first time since 2016, a University of Guelph women's cross country runner has earned a Top 3 individual finish at a national championship. On Saturday afternoon (Nov. 8, 2025) the Guelph Gryphons men's and women's cross country teams made the trip to Sherbrooke, Quebec to compete in the 2025 U SPORTS Cross Country Championships. The Gryphon men finished 3rd (out of 23 schools) in the final men's team standings. For the Gryphon men, it marks their first podium finish at a U SPORTS Cross Country Championship since claiming team silver medals back in 2021. On the women's side, the Gryphons finished 12th in the final women's team standings (out of 22 schools). Leading the way for the Gryphon women was 2025 OUA Runner of the Year,
Alexandra McDougall, a fourth-year biomedical engineering major at the University of Guelph, who continued her sensational 2025 cross country season by finishing 3rd (in a field of 174 runners) to claim an individual bronze medal in the women's 8km race. McDougall (Port Perry, ON) becomes the first U of G women's cross country runner in nine years to earn a Top 3 individual finish at a nationals (Katelyn Ayers, bronze at 2016 CIS Cross Country Championships). The University of Victoria Vikes were crowned national champions on the women's side, while the Queen's Gaels took home the U SPORTS banner as national champions in men's cross country.
Â
After claiming
OUA silver medals at the provincial level two weeks ago, the Gryphons men's cross country team put together another strong showing at nationals, edging the Laval Rouge et Or by the slimmest of margins to claim the final spot on the 2025 U SPORTS podium.
Jack Lehto (Burlington, ON) and
Max Davies (Toronto, ON) led the way for the Gryphons, with both runners earning U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian status, with Lehto crossing the finish line in 6th-place in the 8km race, followed by Davies in 7th. It marks the second consecutive year that Lehto has earned U SPORTS All-Canadian status, and third consecutive year for Davies. Gryphon teammate
Christian Rachner (Brampton, ON) earned U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian status after placing 13th (in a field of 163 runners). See below for more details on the Gryphons cross country results at this year's national championship,
