GUELPH, Ont. – The Gryphons women's hockey team continue their strong start to their season as they picked up a pair of road wins over Toronto on Thursday (Oct. 30) and Ontario Tech on Saturday (Nov. 1) as they improve to 7-1 on the season.
Thursday, Oct. 30, 2025 | Gryphons Earn Road Win over Varsity Blues
On Thursday night, the Gryphons paid a visit to Varsity Arena to take on the Varsity Blues as
Michelle Gao's penalty shot goal proved to be the difference in their 4-2 win. Guelph got out to an 1-0 lead at the 15:41 mark of the first period when
Maeve Sutherland-Case took the pass from
Katherine Heard and
wired her wrist shot past the blocker side of Lyla McKinnon. The Gryphs would double their lead late in the second period as
Katelyn Dance weaved through the Varsity Blues defence and found
Sarah Callaghan who
connects on the one-timer for her first of the season. The Varsity Blues added a goal late in the second to cut the deficit to one. Two minutes into the third, the Gryphons would earn a penalty shot opportunity as
Michelle Gao stepped up and
calmly scores on her forehand to restore the two goal lead for the Gryphs. Christina Alexiou scored with 1:28 left in the third for the Varsity Blues as they made it a 3-2 game. The Gryphons were able to withstand the late Toronto pressure as
Maeve Sutherland-Case seals the win her second goal of the game into the empty net.
Martina Fedel stopped 25 shots in the win.
Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025 | Fast Start in Opening Period Powers Gryphons to 5-1 Road Win
It didn't take long for the Gryphons to take an early lead in Oshawa as a turnover in the Ridgeback's zone allows Maddie Min to collect the loose puck,
allowing her to walk in and score the game's opening goal 42 seconds into the game.
Maeve Sutherland-Case would double the Gryphon lead as she's able to
score on the second chance and
Reese Coffey would cap off a dominant opening period as she
scores her third of the season from the point. The Gryphs outshot the Ridgebacks 21-3 as they'd take a 3-0 lead at the intermission.
Sarah Callaghan would score the team's fourth of the game off the Maddie Min pass as
she fired it home on the one-timer, scoring in back-to-back games.
Maeve Sutherland-Case would cap off her outstanding weekend,
scoring her fourth goal of the weekend as she kept it herself on the 2-on-1 to seal the 5-1 victory.
Sophie Helfenstein wasn't called upon much, making 12 saves for her fourth win of the season.
The Gryphons (7-1) return home to the Gryphon Centre for a pair of home games this weekend when they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday (Nov. 7) and the TMU Bold on Saturday (Nov. 8).
