GUELPH Ont. – The Gryphons women's hockey team picked up back-to-back shutouts on the weekend at home, defeating the Ottawa Gee-Gees and TMU Bold on Friday (Nov. 7) and Saturday (Nov. 8) at the Gryphon Centre Arena.

No. 4 nationally in the latest U SPORTS rankings, the Gryphons women's hockey team improved to 8-1-0 on the season on Friday night (Nov. 7) thanks to a 3-0 home win over the visiting Ottawa Gee-Gees (5-2-1 | 2nd in OUA East). Gryphons third-year forward, Katie Dance (Aylmer, ON), scored a pair of goals in the 2nd period, her first two goals of the season, to help lead the Gryphons to their 8th win of the season.
Kaitlyn McKenna added an empty net goal, and Gryphons third-year goalie,
Sophie Helfenstein, turned away all 23 shots sent her way for her third shutout of the season. Helfenstein in 6 starts this season is now 5-1-0 with a 0.84 goals against average.
Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025 | Gryphons Win 5-0 Over TMU
Saturday night (Nov. 8), the Gryphons were back on home ice, hosting the TMU Bold (2-6-0) at the Gryphon Centre Arena. The Gryphons started fast, with
Maeve Sutherland-Case scoring just :29 seconds into the game, and Guelph would not look back from there, with five different Guelph players finding the back of the net in the 5-0 win. Gryphons second-year goalie,
Alysse Wilkinson, was making just the second OUA start of her career, and turned aside all 25 shots sent her way for the shutout. Wilkinson now has two shutouts in her two career OUA starts, with her lone start last season as a rookie coming on January 31, 2025 against Ontario Tech where she had a 16-save shutout versus the Ridgebacks. With the win on Saturday night over TMU, the No. 4-ranked Gryphons extended their win streak to five in a row while improving to 9-1-0 on the season. The Gryphons currently sit in 1st-place in the
OUA West Division standings with 26 points (9 points ahead of the next-closest teams in the OUA West standings, York and Laurier, with 17 points). Through 10 games played this season, the Gryphons (9-1-0) own the 2nd-best record in the country, next only to the undefeated UBC Thunderbirds (10-0-0).
The Gryphons will return to their home ice for a pair of games on Friday, Nov. 14 (vs Windsor Lancers) and Saturday, Nov. 15 (vs Carleton Ravens), with those two upcoming games marking their final home games of the 2025 calendar year. After that, Guelph will close out the 2025 portion of their schedule with three straight home games (Nov. 21 at Ottawa, Nov. 22 at Carleton and Nov. 29 at Nipissing) before heading into the exam / Christmas break.
