GUELPH, Ont. – The Gryphons women's basketball team hosted a pair of the games from the Guelph Gryphons Athletic Centre when they took on the Algoma Thunderbirds (Oct. 31) and Waterloo Warriors (Nov. 1) as the Gryphons moved to 3-1 on the season with a weekend sweep at home.
Friday, Oct. 31, 2025 | Gryphons Pull Away in Second Half to Defeat Algoma
On Friday night, the Gryphons bounced back as they pulled away in the second half to defeat Algoma 71-41. With the Guelph leading 32-25 heading to the second half, the hosts would open up the half on a 14-3 run to extend their lead to 18 points, leading them to a win on home court. The Gryphon defence held the Thunderbirds to 16 second half points and 41 total points as Algoma shot 26.3% from the field. Eleven Gryphons saw action in the win and all eleven players recorded a made basket.
Hannah Bourdon and
Samantha Milne led a balanced scoring attack with 10 points each while
Christina Morra and
Macy Weber each grabbed double-digit rebounds.
Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025 | Gryphons Complete Fourth Quarter Comeback in 54-52 Victory over Waterloo
The Gryphons on Saturday night battled back from an 11 point deficit late in the third quarter to complete the fourth quarter comeback in their 54-52 win over the Waterloo Warriors. With the Gryphons in search of a basket and trailing 41-30, they'd turn to
Christina Morra late in the third as she'd score on back-to-back possessions to trim the deficit down to seven to give her side some momentum heading into the final frame. Guelph would chip away at the deficit in the fourth quarter as
Alexis Wright took over 10 of her 12 points in the fourth including the
go-ahead basket with 42 seconds left to give her side the 51-50 lead. With the Warriors inbounding, the Gryphon defence would force an errand pass as
Sarah Metwally hustled down the floor to get the loose ball as she dished it off to
Hannah Bourdon for the layup to extend the lead to three with 19 seconds left as it turned out to be the game winning basket, erasing an 11 point deficit as they rallied back in their 54-52 win. The Guelph defence fueled their comeback efforts, holding Waterloo to three field goals and 11 points in the final quarter.

The Gryphons (3-1) will head on the road for the first time this season as they continue OUA West division play against the Windsor Lancers on Friday (Nov. 7) and the Western Mustangs on Saturday (Nov. 8).
