BURLINGTON, Ont. – On Thursday (Nov. 6, 2025), Ontario University Athletics (OUA) announced the OUA All-Stars and major award winners for the 2025 football season as
Mitchel Schechinger (offensive line) and
Jevaun Jacobsen (linebacker) were named OUA Second Team All-Stars, while first-year defensive lineman, Andre Thomspon, earned a spot on the 2025 OUA All-Rookie team.

A pair of Gryphon football players earned OUA all-star status as
Mitchel Schechinger and Jevaun Jacobson were named to the second team. For fourth-year mechanical engineering major
Mitchel Schechinger, this represents the third consecutive season where he was named an OUA All-Star. The Sarnia native started in 7 of his team's 10 games this season (including postseason) and is one of the pillars on a Gryphon offensive line that averaged 493.1 yards per game and help lead the second-best rushing attack in the OUA. Schechinger showed off his versatility this season making the transition over to centre, starting in his team's final five games of the season in his new position as he didn't miss a beat after returning from injury.
For the first time in his Gryphon career,
Jevaun Jacobsen has earned OUA all-star status. The third year linebacker was an integral part of the Gryphon defence throughout the season as he did it all for the team in the run game and the pass game. The Burnaby, BC native was third on the team with 27.5 total tackles, led the team with 21 solo tackles to go along with his four tackles for loss and three sacks on the regular season. The psychology major had one of his most impactful performances in his team's OUA semifinal game against Laurier as the game's leading tackler with 7.0, making 5 solo tackles and assisting on 4 others.
OUA Football All-Rookie Team, Andre Thompson (Defensive Lineman)
Gryphons first-year defensive lineman,
Andre Thompson, was named to the 2025 OUA All-Rookie Team. Thompson becomes the 22nd Gryphon football player to be named to the OUA All-Rookie Team, extending the streak of nine consecutive seasons in which the Gryphons produced one of the top rookies in the province. Thompson, a 6-foot-5 London native, blossomed into his role on the Gryphon defensive line, taking over as a starter in his team's third game of the season. The sociology major appeared in all of his team's games this season, finishing his first season with 18.0 total tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. One of the highlights for Thompson this season came in his team's final regular season game against York (Oct. 18) when his teammate made a big hit to jar the ball loose as it would fall into Thompson's hands for an interception.
The pick wasn't enough for Thompson as he ran it back 21 yards before he was tackled for his first career interception.

visit www.oua.ca. The 2025 OUA football season will wrap up this Saturday (Nov. 8) with the playing of the 117th Yates Cup, with the Queen's Gaels travelling to Wilfrid Laurier University to face the reigning Yates Cup champions, the Laurier Golden Hawks.
